Step 1

Château
de Chantilly

60500 Chantilly
I promise, no castles were harmed during filming.

“I promise, no castles were harmed during filming,” joked Ryan Gosling upon the release of The Gray Man. The star, witty and humorous, plays a CIA agent battling the most fearsome killers on the planet. Among other explosive adventures, he faces a setback in Croatia... but it is on the walkways of the Château de Chantilly, in the Oise, that he finally defeats his enemies.

World famous, the castle nestles within an immense 115 hectare estate. There is a magnificent Le Nôtre garden, an Anglo-Chinese garden and also the residence of the Duke of Aumale. It's quite simple in fact. With Chantilly, it is possible to explore the entire history of France since the 14th century. As an example of one anecdote among many, during the French Revolution, Louis V, Prince of Condé, took refuge there. Then, during the Terror in 1792, the castle was converted into a political prison!

Nowadays, Chantilly is renowned for its automobile elegance competition which brings together hundreds of cars from across all motoring eras. In the past, It has also hosted many prestigious film shoots: Farewell to the Queen, Marie-Antoinette, Palais Royal!, Ridicule, and even The Longest Day.

OUR TIP

The castle hosts a number of exhibitions throughout the year, so don’t forget to check the programme.

For younger visitors, there’s also a historical investigation game in the château gardens, where you can learn while having fun!

Step 2

Domaine
de Chaalis

60300 Fontaine-Chaalis

In Family Business, poor Olivier gets taken on a hunting trip, but “real hunting, not redneck hunting” says his exuberant companion Clémentine (Louise Coldefy). And across the Chaalis estate, dressed like an aristocrat from another time, he promenades with his gun on his arm.

Located in Valois, 40km from Paris, there is much to see and do around this former 12th century Cistercian abbey, including the Sainte-Marie Chapel, the Jacquemart-André Museum (which houses paintings, sculptures and objects from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance), a hydroelectric power station, a rose garden, an orangery and a magnificent park where you can stroll around its ponds and along the canals! Finally, visitors with a good sense of smell can register for the perfume workshop, discovering the “secrets of fragrances” and the design of eau de parfum.

Step 3

Château
de Thoiry

2
Rue du Pavillon de Montreuil
78770 Thoiry

In Lupin (Part 3), our gentleman burglar pretends to be a locker room employee and infiltrates a luxurious gala in the reception room of the Château de Thoiry. To get there, travel to Yvelines, about 50km from Paris. Treat yourself to an exotic trip among the tigers and lions of the Thoiry African Reserve founded by Paul de La Panouse. His family has lived in the castle for four centuries and over sixteen generations! Built on top of a hill in 1559, its elegant proportions even respect the golden ratio.

Inside, visitors can marvel at period works and furniture (Louis XV or Louis XVI): Gobelins tapestries, private letters from the royal family, Chinese wallpaper, Blanchet's harpsichord and even a piano once graced by the genius of Chopin's fingers.
