A Parisian Family Stroll undefined
custom book title svg for print
By day, Marinette and Adrien look like any other pair of middle school students. And yet, without them, Paris would certainly be in deep trouble. Because by night, they become Ladybug and Cat Noir, two superheroes watching over the City of Light. The Miraculous cartoon is a worldwide success and celebrates the French capital with every shot. What could be more natural than offering someone a historical and playful stroll around the essential places in Marinette's life: her parents' bakery, her high school and ending with the Luxor Obelisk, at the heart of one of her adventures.

We know that Marinette's education is sometimes a little complicated. She was excluded no less than three times from Françoise Dupont college... Life as a superhero under the direction of Denis Damoclès or Olga Mendeleiev is not easy! Fortunately, the “real” college behind the cartoon is somewhat less hectic. The famous Lycée Carnot, located in the 17th Arrondissement of Paris.

An establishment whose foundations date back to 1869, and stands out due to “La Marquise”, an impressive hall topped with a magnificent glass roof. Some of its former students are also rather well known: Jacques Chirac, Jean Reno, Stéphane Bern and even Daft Punk!

And by the way, speaking of masked characters, did you know that: The name of Marinette's middle school is a nod to a certain famous character. Françoise Dupont is the secret identity of Fantômette, another famous vigilante, created in 1961 by the author Georges Chaulet. In a way that makes her Ladybug's big sister! Take a stroll through the quarter to find out more and while you are there, why not meander through the magnificent Parc Monceau, just a few steps away.

Place de la Concorde

Ladybug's adventures are not without incident, and sometimes things do get broken... Starting with the tip of the famous Luxor Obelisk, which lost its summit during a fight! A tragedy, since it is the oldest monument in the capital, with its construction dating back to ancient Egypt.

If you go to see it on the Place de la Concorde, don't forget to admire its magnificent golden hieroglyphs up close.

In 1829, the viceroy of Egypt Méhémet Ali decided to offer two obelisks from the temple of Amun to France, as a sign of good will. Only one of them was finally sent and only arrived at its destination two years later after a journey filled with incident: winter storms, sandbanks and even eight months of waiting for the river to flood. If you go to see it on the Place de la Concorde, don't forget to admire its magnificent golden hieroglyphs up close. Rest assured, Ladybug did take the time to restore this pink rock gem to its former glory!
