Netflix productions are not only set in urban environments! Our heroes regularly venture “far from the ring road”, and introduce subscribers to fascinating natural and architectural riches. It was therefore essential that we list some unmissable “French landscape”, for discovery on the weekend getaways or while on vacation.

Le Pavillon
Keller

Route de l'Oisans
38220 Livet-et-Gavet

In Far from the Ring Road, the duo of Parisian cops (Omar Sy and Laurent Lafitte) try to prevent an explosion in an astonishing building transformed into a social center.

Mounted on stilts, with its grayish concrete facade eaten away by time, the Keller Pavilion and its 1,700 m² of space left abandoned fuels the imagination of Isère. Symbol of the deindustrialization of the Romanche valley, it owes its name to Charles Albert Keller, an engineer who made his fortune at the beginning of the 20th century by producing calcium carbide.

In 2000, it was already one of the disturbing locations in Rivières Pourpres, the cult thriller by Mathieu Kassovitz. Nestled in the heart of nature, will the building one day find the buyer it deserves? In the meantime, if you are in the region, it is definitely worth exploring.

WHEN TO GO?

The Pavilion is accessible year-round, but its mysterious character will be even more pronounced in the autumn gloom.

Step 2

Château
d'Ormesson

1
Av. du Général de Gaulle
94490 Ormesson-sur-Marne

For their little secret lovers getaway, Berlin and Camille choose a magnificent “almost floating” castle: the Château d'Ormesson, located in Ormesson-sur-Marne. Begun in 1598 by Louis-Picot de Santeny, it only reached its current state in the middle of the 18th century, and is distinguished by its projecting vaulting, supporting the corner pavilions, which are called “trompes”.

It was at this time that the park was reorganized according to the principles of Le Nôtre, gardener to Louis XIV. Big names also passed through Ormesson, from La Fontaine to Diderot via Mme de Sévigné and Mme de Staël. The castle also has six magnificent libraries and two archives.

WHEN TO GO?

Please note, however, that the castle itself can only be visited during European Craft Days, Heritage Days, the Ormesson town fair, and a few other weekends per year

Step 3

La forêt de
Rambouillet

78120 Rambouillet

Every self-respecting professional thief has a secret hideout. So why not combine business with pleasure by locating yours in the great outdoors? In the film Voleuses, the Rambouillet forest is the perfect setting, being less than an hour from Paris, for our professional duo. This is where their super high-tech designer home is located—hidden behind a mirrored door!—and too bad for Alex (Adèle Exarchopoulos) if she forgot her charger and there is no WiFi!

In this rather wealthy region of the greater Parisian suburbs, the forest, with its star-shaped roads, is the location where royal hunting was historically carried out. Above all, it offers a breath of fresh air with its clearings, sandbanks and ponds navigable by boat, all sheltered from the hustle and bustle of the capital. If you are (really) quiet, perhaps you will be lucky enough to come across one of the majestic deer that roam through the region.
