Step 1

Les Puces de
Saint-Ouen

110
Rue des Rosiers
93400 Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine

One persons thief, is another's resaler. And it is in northern Paris, in the alleys of the Biron market, that the gentleman burglar, complete with beret and long coat, hangs out, negotiating the resale of his ill-gotten gains with his old friend Benjamin Férel (Antoine Gouy). A friend resourceful enough to get him a replica of the famous necklace of the Queen in season 2!

While you can find almost anything and everything in the Puces de Saint-Ouen, with its several sprawling hectares of stalls selling bric-a-brac, the Biron market is something else again. This temple of connoisseurs, self-proclaimed “the most prestigious antiques market in the world”, it brings together 220 antique dealers and art dealers along two aisles crossed by a red carpet, while also offering a valet service. Each fall there is a large themed party with “shows and cocktail dinners, in an exceptional setting”. Certainly an experience not to be missed… if you can afford it. For the rest of the year, simple “window shopping” is certainly worth the detour.

WHEN TO GO?

Please note, while some shops may be open on Fridays, to fully enjoy the Flea Market experience, it’s recommended to prioritize Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays.

Step 2

Jardin des
des Grands-Explorateurs

27
Av. de l'Observatoire
75006 Paris

When he's not roaming the rooftops of Paris or somewhere under the Louvre Pyramid, Assane Diop sometimes takes time for a break. So he opens up the memory box and remembers his childhood. In season 1, a flashback sends us back to the foot of the Observatory fountain which is located in les jardins des Grands-Explorateurs, between Port-Royal and the Jardin du Luxembourg. This is where the young man loved to play with his father, before he was cruelly murdered. Between visits to museums in the capital, it's the ideal place to take a break... without, of course, forgetting to look upwards.

The Fontaine de l'Observatoire is a bronze fountain dating from the second part of the 19th century, signed by several French sculptors, including Gabriel Davioud and Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux. In the center, four women representing Africa, Asia, Europe and America carry a celestial globe. In the pool below, eight sea-horses rear up among turtles and fish. Good to know for the summertime: you will find a playground and ping-pong tables just nearby.

WHEN TO GO?

Every year, the French Astronomy Association organizes ‘Paris under the Stars,’ an evening of observation that is 100% free and open to everyone.

Step 3

Le parc des
Buttes-Chaumont

Place Armand-Carrel, Paris 19e.
75119 Paris

Lupin wouldn't be a real Parisian if he didn't from time to time undertake secret assignations in the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, in the 19th Arrondissement. Throughout season 2, he finds time to meet his lover Juliette (Clotilde Hesme) at the Temple of the Sibyl, the ideal spot overlooking the Paris skyline, be it to declare his love or plot a Machiavellian scheme. Located at the top of the lake’s island, it dates from 1866 and was inspired by the Temple of Vesta in Tivoli, Italy. Circular in shape and supported by five pillars, it is an ancient alcove lost in the trees, an integral part of this multicultural Parisian district.

Coming back down from the Temple, go over the wooden walkway suspended above the water. Below, children can have fun with the Guignol ("Punch and Judy") theaters, while adults can relax with a coffee at the Pavillon du Lac. At the end of the day, it's time for a cocktail accompanied by Camargue tapas at Rosa Bonheur, a real institution of Parisian nightlife!

WHEN TO GO?

To enjoy a breathtaking sunset, climb the middle hill between Avenue Puebla and Avenue des Marnes, then skirt around the white tent and settle down on the grass

Step 4

Le Passage
des Panoramas

11
Boulevard Montmartre
75002 Paris

The gentleman burglar knows the flea markets better than anyone. But in the heart of the capital, it's often here that you just might stumble across him...Certainly in season 3, he takes this route to join Claire (Ludivine Sagnier).

If you tire of the sites of Grands Boulevards, why not take a sharp turn and nip into this (almost) hidden gem of a glass-roofed arcade. Go back in time to the beginning of the 19th century and hunt for trinkets, postcards and other postage stamps in the boutiques and bric-a-brac stores tucked into the arcade. Peer through the vintage storefront of the Marquis chocolatier and the famous Stern printing company.

Angus beef aficionados will certainly want to drop into the Lombem restaurant. The Passage is home to several other restaurants specialising in mouth-watering cuisine: Sardinian, gyozas, Argentinian empanadas... There is certainly something to delight every palette.

OUR TIP

Before leaving, why not watch the program at the Théâtre des Variétés? It’s only a few steps away!

Step 5

BnF
Richelieu

5
Rue Vivienne
75002 Paris

Why did they wait until season 3 to send Assane Diop to the National Library of France? Quite simply because the institution had been undergoing renovation for 12 years!

An essential landmark for art history and heritage buffs like himself, the BNF - Richelieu houses various research areas but also temporary exhibitions, a garden and a very nice café (Rose Bakery). All this, between the Palais-Royal and Place de la Bourse. If you have always dreamed of seeing the throne of good King Dagobert in real life, Charlemagne's chessboard or the original manuscript of Notre-Dame de Paris by Victor Hugo... This is the place to be.

But the highlight of the show is the sumptuous Oval reading-room that is open to the public. Under its majestic vaults, 20,000 volumes await to send you on a journey through time and through a wealth of learning.

WHEN TO GO?

Frequented by Parisian students, it is highly popular during exam periods, so it’s best to avoid it!

Step 6

Galerie
Colbert

4
rue Vivienne
75002 Paris

Just like Claire (Lupin - Part 3), who wishes to pick up a book upon leaving the BNF - Richelieu,, it would be a shame not to pass some time beneath the gallery, founded in 1826, which takes its name from one of the most famous ministers of Louis XIV. The ideal place for a quality café crème at the Le Grand Colbert brasserie with its Art Nouveau decor.

Above all, you really must make the most of its impressive 17-metre glass and metal dome, lit (as it was in the past) by gas. Before Lupin, the locale had already been a favored setting for the plots of Balzac's great novels. Currently, there are no art dealers in the gallery, which is entirely dedicated to heritage institutions such as the National Institute of Art History (Institut national d'histoire de l'art). And of course, don't let yourself be put off by the sculpture of a dying Eurydice who casts her melancholy gaze over visitors from the center of the dome...

OUR TIP

We recommand you to make a detour through the beautiful garden of the Palais Royal!

Step 7

Restaurant
Prunier

16
avenue Victor Hugo
75116 Paris

Remember! In season 2, this is where Assane runs into Juliette (Clotilde Hesme) and they remember the good old days...

To discover the Prunier restaurant run by chef Yannick Alléno, go directly to the heart of the 16th arrondissement and the luxurious avenue Victor Hugo. You will need to be well prepared for the final bill though if you decide to sample the “unmissable Christian Dior Egg”, seasonal seafood or the wide variety of caviars (produced in Gironde for a century) which have made the reputation of this Parisian institution. His most recent specialty? Extract of gray shrimp.

But we also visit Prunier to marvel at its magnificent Art Deco decoration, listed as a historic monument, with its mirror walls and mosaics. Needless to say, Prunier is the ideal restaurant when you have something extraordinary to celebrate... Or simply appreciate fine dining packed with iodine.

OUR TIP

Don’t forget to admire the beautiful mosaics (on the facade as well as inside the restaurant).

Step 8

Le cimetière
du Père-Lachaise

28
ter Boulevard de Ménilmontant
75020 Paris

In one of the memorable sequences of the series, Assane Diop has the smart idea of organizing his own funeral to make people believe he is dead. A fantasy that has passed through our heads at one time or another and which is wonderfully embodied by the fantastical Père-Lachaise cemetery. It is the largest green space in Paris and the whole world flocks there to wander among the more than 75,000 tombs of such luminaries as Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf, Jim Morrison...

Did you know? The cemetery takes its name from François d'Aix de La Chaise, priest confessor of Louis XIV. For the most curious, numerous themed visits are organized all year round. Along the Fédérés wall, we can pay tribute to the victims of the Paris Commune and since the Covid period, it is not uncommon to come across the red tails of a family of foxes now seen frolicking between the roots and old stone monuments!

NOTE THAT

Among the many recent films shot there, we can include: Elle (Paul Verhoeven), Vortex (Gaspar Noé) and France (Bruno Dumont).

Step 9

L’Appartement
Saint-Martin

96
Rue René Boulanger
75010 Paris

It's certainly not always easy to choose the right place for a date with your ex-wife. Assane Diop chooses to meet up with Claire (Ludivine Sagnier) at L'Appartement Saint-Martin, well within his favored comfort zone of the 10th arrondissement.

Located at the corner between Boulevard de Strasbourg and the very cute Rue René Boulanger, this retro-modern café with its flowery frontage, stone-walled interior and tasteful decor is an ideal landmark to kick off your day with a brunch or to a gourmet break. The tastes worth sampling include octopus carpaccio, green asparagus and poached egg or even a comforting shellfish with ham.

For more information

WHEN TO GO?

In summer, its very spacious terrace is a fantastic place to relax outside and enjoy the first rays of sunshine. A superb venue to engage in quiet discussion, whether serious or not.

Step 10

La Maison
d'éducation des Loges

Route des Loges
78108 Saint-Germain-en-Laye

In the series, it's a home for teenagers. In real life, the Maison d'éducation des Loges belongs... to the Grande Chancellerie de la Légion d'Honneur, in the middle of the forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye!

Its white stone buildings were built around a century-old lime tree dating from the 19th century, but over time they have been supplemented by more modern buildings. The establishment was reserved for young girls under Napoleon... and this is still the case today. Boarding school and uniform are compulsory for all schoolgirls. Medals, rolls of honor, bowing or singing of the Marseillaise, in the Maison d'éducation des Loges, an education respecting tradition and the institutions is prioritized, in a setting that is both ancestral and bucolic. Every year, they even organize a big concert bringing together around a hundred students in honor, and in the presence of, the President of the Republic.

WHEN TO GO?

Exceptional tours are organized in September during “Les journées du Patrimoine”

Step 11

Le Marché
de Rungis

1
Rue de la Tour
94150 Rungis
DSC00123.ARW

If you know the series well, you may be wondering which scene was filmed in Rungis (in Val de Marne)... In fact, it's impossible to guess because there are many interior sequences in a police station!

However, if you are lucky enough to be able to visit its 234 hectares of wholesalers and flower, food and decoration stalls, you probably will not forget your visit any time soon since it has been the "largest fresh produce market in the world” since the 1960s, bringing together up to 18,000 people. It is a virtual city in its own right with its workers and even its own jargon: "casseurs", "gardeuses"... Since 2016, a pavilion has exclusively housed organic products.

NOTE THAT

Most of the activity is carried out between 3 a.m. and noon. Organized visits are reserved for students and professionals.

Step 12

Hoops
Factory

3
Rue Pierre Larousse
93300 Aubervilliers

What's better than a good basketball session to maintain your skill and agility when you're a professional burglar? Whether you are alone, with friends or colleagues, the Hoops Factory has something for everyone. Presenting itself as the “house of basketball”, with its five centers serving Paris and the rest of France, it is indeed the go-to indoor venue for the next aspiring Victor Wenbanyama.

During the school holidays, “Camps” are organized in the form of one-week courses with a rhythm and a program adapted according to level. Adults are not left out since they can participate in the Coupe de France 3x3 “Entreprise”: 3 qualifying tournaments, with more than 25 teams already registered... Ideal to boost fitness and team-building in an ultra-modern setting!
